New Year, New Life

1/3/2020

It has been entirely too long since my last post, and a lot has changed between then and now.

Unfortunately, the person living in our basement was making poor life decisions, so he is no longer living with us. Noah and I came to the realization that you can offer someone every assistance; if they don't take and implement the help, there is nothing more you can do for them. Our basement stayed empty for a couple of months, but we now have a new tenant living downstairs. As a college student, this person is working hard to begin learning time and money management. It's an on-going process, but I think having the ability to learn that in a safe environment while still enjoying some level of independence is important and helpful for this individual.

In the beginning of June, Shannon went back to Thailand and started college at a local university. She adopted a puppy, so her days are full but I'm sure enjoyable! The summer went by in a whirlwind. The reality of her leaving didn't really set in until school started back in August. As I watched people bring their kids to school, I missed the conversations she and I would have, listening to her music, learning about her, and providing for her (to some degree, since it was a study abroad program).

While Shannon was with us, I realized very quickly that I enjoyed having the title of "Mom." I also realized that I didn't have to fear having extra responsibility. Luckily, I found out I was pregnant in the early part of the summer with a little one due this month - January!

Let me tell you, there was a wide variety of emotions to accompany the news. Excitement, fear, joy, and dread were among those ranging emotions. Noah keeps saying, "We're kids having a kid." Pretty much... or at least that's how it feels! I know that God will give us the grace for each day and circumstance we encounter, but I have to constantly remind myself of that truth. Until he's born, though, I wait in eager anticipation for his arrival, praying that he will be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and obedient to Him. There's nothing better I could do for him than dousing his life in prayer.

Therefore, I also implore you to pray for him alongside me. Some of my desires for him would be that he has a deep, intimate relationship with Jesus Christ; loves his neighbor; selflessly gives of his time, talent, energy, and money; hungers for God's Word; fervently shares the Gospel; and makes responsible decisions as a citizen guided by Scripture. Please join me in prayer.
