Way back in November, I had a desire for God to use Noah, me, and this house as an offering to Him. I'll be honest: between that post and this, I had gotten WAY off track. I started getting more focused on a clean house, perfectly cooked meals, and time to myself, which turned into me just wanting to relax undisturbed. I started to get irritable, frustrated, bitter, and impatient. I worked only to go home and veg on the couch, distracting myself to apathy. Selfishness had an overwhelming foothold in my heart, and it was starting to seep out in multiple areas of my life.
With the new year, came a new goal-- eliminate Netflix from my nightly routine.
The hope and prayer Noah and I have for this house is that it is an offering back to God.
With less Netflix and distractions, came more intentional conversations, interactions, and time spent with Jesus... I was actually spending time with Jesus! Time for prayer, Scripture, reading, and exercising increased dramatically! Who knew. ;) I was filled with a sense of purpose, joy, excitement, and love that can only be attributed to the Holy Spirit. There was a fire burning in my heart, and I felt (feel) like I was going to explode with joy in Jesus!
On Saturday, I couldn't take it anymore. I had to make steps to welcome others into my home and heart. Thus, Noah and I applied to be foster parents. We set up an orientation date and received more information to get the process started. Wouldn't you know it, but God was just preparing us for Sunday.
We got a call from a friend requesting a warm place to stay while the weather worsened. Our hearts had already been opened on Saturday, so there was no question. We picked our friend up, got them warm clothes, and set them up with a room in the house.
Later that night, I saw a post on Facebook asking for a family to host a foreign exchange student. I looked to Noah and asked, "How crazy are you feeling?" He just smiled and rolled his eyes. Off we started in the application process to host a student until the end of the school year.
As he and I venture out of our comfort zone, I'll keep you posted as to God continues to use this house for His glory and for furthering His kingdom.
As we begin this adventure, please keep us in your prayers. Pray for wisdom, patience, and abounding love.
I'm passionate about living life to the fullest and exploring the beauty around me.
